I love our leadership team at Wallula! Sometimes people in church life get the idea that folks serving in the office of Elder need to be grumpy, serious minded, and generally difficult to understand. I’m glad that our team of Elders serving Wallula Christian Church are none of those things.
First they are not serving in an office. Eldership at Wallula is not a position. Being an Elder is a way of life. These guys would be living this way whether their names were on some official piece of paper or not. They would be loving others. They would be passionate about doing life with others. They would be motivated to share their time, talents and resources with others for the purpose of sharing the story of Jesus with others!
Secondly these guys are not grumpy. I just left a great meeting with Sam, George, Howard myself, a potential campus pastor and our wives. The meeting was about serious stuff, sharing Jesus with everyone we can! But the mood of the evening was fun! There was laughter and food and good conversation.
Thirdly, while each of these men understand that we are charged with the serious work of leading the local church they approach this heavy responsibility not with the seriousness of a disgruntled employee but with joy of folks committed to squeezing the very most out of life that they can.
Finally it is so great that I and each of us can count on these guys meaning what the say and saying what they mean. I value their straight forward, honest approach to life.
Thank you George, Howard, Sammy and Tom for being willing to serve Jesus with all your might. Thanks so much to Jolene, Maureen, Mary, Marsha and Cherie for loving your husbands with out question and serving in your own powerful way as well as supporting your husbands’ ministries.
I love this church!
